1 ) Tell me who are your friends so I can tell you who you are

This proverb is often used to somehow judge a person by the kind of friends someone has . For example , if one is surrounded by friends who use drugs , chances are you are also using drugs . However , if one is surrounded with a good company of friends who like to study hard for good exams results , then chances are you will also be someone who studies hard to get good grades

It shows that

friends influence one another . If one has good friends around then one will most likely turn out to be a good member of the community . Take for example this one classmate of mine who often watched late night television during school nights with her own television-lover friends . It turned out that the next day she was either too sleepy or too tired to listen to the teacher . Soon she was having difficulty passing her exams . It was not only her but her friends as well . Instead of studying on weekends , they went around the malls shopping or just hanging out . They ended up cramming and even cheating just to pass their exams . I think that my classmate was badly influenced by her other friends

However , I do not anyone can change . For me , it is not good to judge a person by the friends she /he has because each of us can decide for ourselves . Anyone can choose the friends she /he would like to be with . Anyone can decide anytime that the friends she /he is having are not giving her /him any positive value in life . Anyone can have as many friends and as different friends as one can have yet not be badly influenced by them

Although sometimes I admit the proverb works , I think it should not be applied all the time to all people

There are many reasons that I have read why high school students drop out . The most interesting one is because of work . I heard one school dropout said that he left high school because wanted to have a car . He worked as a janitor and eventually got his car . This is a bit puzzling to me

In my family , we have been told that education is the key to many opportunities . My parents taught me that if I finish college I could have whatever I want . I was told that in America people can buy the things they want if they work hard .
