Use of the Internet , at first mainly confined to the aid agencies researchers and some NGOs , rapidly spread to a growing number of users among the general public . For example in Africa , that there are about 15 ,000 Internet Service Providers (ISP ) across the continent as at the end of 1999 , translating to about two million Internet users in Africa in 1999 The effect of the Internet in the third worlds has been profound

The Internet has created access to good libraries and new books , to journals and scientific articles the creation of virtual classrooms is becoming widespread

It has played a big role in the improvement of the health sector in the third world , this has been in form of improvement of management and administration of health , outreach and teaching facilities to emergencies diagnosis and treatment , transfer of medical data information on disease control

Over 90 percent of people in the third world live in rural areas , most turn to traditional medicine and can 't afford primary health care , but with the Internet access to health information has led to more effective methods of curing illnesses . The greatest problem facing the third world is poverty and disease . For instance in Africa , epidemics have ravaged the continent , spread of infectious diseases , tuberculoses , malaria high infant mortality and now HIV /AIDS have all taken and are still taking their toll . Most of these diseases are not only caused by a lack of technology or resources but rather by a deficit of information and adequate communication strategies . Communication strategies not only in the sense of providing the medical sector with journals , but also in the sense of changing attitudes to diseases

As such primary health care information has and is now being packaged into programme content for community radios .There fore it now widely believed that the most significant benefit of Internet in the health sector on the third world has been on the HIV /AIDS sector

In terms of investment , a number of third world countries now have stock exchanges . Whereas years ago stock broking and investing on the financial market was also only for a privileged few , now as in the rest of the world , anybody interested in investing in Africa , Asia , Latin America can take a look at the stocks online , read the pros of the companies on these exchange markets...
