I hope that this letter finds you well . I am writing to express my sincere interest in Central Connecticut State University 's Master of Science in Data Mining . I believe that this program is a good fit for my needs because I am an experienced and busy professional that travels world wide . This programs offers me the ability to study remotely while still meeting the responsibilities and demands of my current career

I received my Bachelor degree in Computer Science in the winter of of 2001 from the Universidade

Catolica de Brasilia , in Brazil . Upon graduation I was offered a job in the public sector , working in data management . This company was responsible to manage all data and systems of the Brazilian Federal Government . This was my first experience with data mining . I utilized logistic regression and neural networking combined with descriptive statistics techniques to discover fraudelent activities in Brazilian Federal payroll

Due to the success of this project I was asked by the SAS Institute to join their

management group which was responsible for sales and technical support to the public sector companies . This position gave me the opportunity to acquire cross-industry experience by supporting the regular SAS customers from public sector , like diverse secretaries (I .E . Secretary of Education , Bureau of Census (IBGE ) and financial institution , as Banco do Brasil (largest financial institution in Brazil ) and Caixa Economica Federal (fourth largest financial institution in Brasil belong to the Brazilian government , and the Central Bank of Brazil

Fraud Management project at Caixa Economica Federal . This project helped that company to avoid a few millions Dollars losses in potential fraud , in one specific line of product

Customer Segmentation project at Banco do Brasil . This project helped that company to better segment their customers , improving customer satisfaction by providing better customer services and reduced expenses with marketing campaigns by better targeting potential customers

Data Warehouse at Secretary of Education . This project integrated the educational census information from past years and made it available to different type of consumers

In 2005 , I was transferred from Brazil to USA , to help a new business unit that managed sales and projects in Caribbean , and in a few countries in Latin America . Since the beginning of 2007 , with the SAS Institute , I 'm focused on financial services industry in USA , serving the institutions of large and medium size . This new responsibility inspired my desire to pursue Professional Risk Manager certification which is focused on risk , certifying that the professionals understand the business of risk , and how to apply diverse techniques to calculate it . In the preparation for the PRM exams I have reviewed calculus Taylor Series limits , descriptive statistics including probability sampling , linear and logistic regression

My objective is to pursue a career in risk management and in the preparation for that , being accepted into the Central Connecticut State University Master of Data Mining Program . I believe I would be a wonderful addition to the University 's 2007 / 2008 school year
