Who drops out of college and why?

br Who drops out of college and why

One Source Cited : February 1995 , Fox offers obvious examples of partiality in its

presentation of exploring why students struggle to maintain full-time academic work loads

Consequently , this sparks debates about whether students are `taking their education seriously

enough (par .9 ) or whether there are more important factors that are restricting students from

meeting these From top to bottom , Fox (1995 ) illustrates reasons why students are not able to cope despite

the reduction of workload and assignments given

Statistics show

that on average , sixty-seven percent of students worked approximately

twenty four hours per week (par .3 ) and forty percentage earned less than 6000 per

annum (par .4

Many students found that it was difficult for them to get degrees without financial support

from families (par .5

Studying fees escalated every year making it costly for students to keep up with

payments (par .6

4 . Students were not always getting the classes they wanted (par .13

Accordingly (Fox , 1995 , the main reasons why students tend to drop out of college , is

because of time restrictions , a lack of financial support and financial burden as well as demotivation

due to the inability to attend their subject of choice (par .16

On the other hand , Romano (2005 ) gives us a different perspective and identifies `a failure

in the core values of education (par .10 ) by means of a decline of reading adeptness in college

graduates (par .1 . One contributing factor mentioned in Romano (2005 may be the fact that the

acceptance of college students was to strengthen enrolment rather than selecting suitable candidates

with proficient reading abilities (par .11 . Furthermore , Romano (2005 states that students face

more challenges now-apart from their struggle to read efficiently- because of the change in

demographics and with more variable population , there is the problem of language and cultural

barriers (par .11

For the purpose of this essay , it is clear that the students who are faced with these

challenges at hand , such as financial constraints , time restrictions cultural and language barriers

low reading proficiencies and escalating student fees may be the ones that actually drop out of

college
