Hamlet is a stunning psychology study of the human psyche interpersonal relationships , and revenge . A tragic story of a dysfunctional family , love and revenge , and personal ambition have made Hamlet a theatrical main stay for the past 400 years . Hamlet , the son of the King of Denmark is away at University . He hears of his father 's sudden death and the subsequent remarriage of his mother to his Uncle

br Claudius . Disturbed by the news he returns home - heartbroken grieving , and angry . Upon his arrival he is visited by the ghost of his father who tells Hamlet tales of murder and treason . Hamlet seeks the truth and in the process becomes obsessed with plotting and carrying out revenge against those who murdered his father - his mother and the new king . Hamlet 's contemplates love with Ophelia and the two of them descend into the appearance of madness together - both endeavors end in death . To ferret out the murderous traitors Hamlet invites a group of actors to act out a scene similar to his father 's death . The truth is not well received by Claudius or Gertrude , and the choice is made to kill Hamlet . After Hamlet accidentally kills Ophelia 's father Polonius Ophelia ends her life and Hamlet has even more reason to seek revenge Laretes (Ophelia 's brother ) and Hamlet agreed to a duel . Each seeking to avenge the wrongful death of ther loved ones . The play concludes with a brutal battle with swords laced with poisoned wine and the untimely deaths of Laertes , Claudius , Gertrude , and Hamlet - revenge has come full circle

Hamlet is a play in which several conflicts are revolving around the central plot . These additional conflicts influence the major plot themes , and final outcomes of this play . The first of these smaller conflicts is the double love story . There are two love stories in Hamlet that parallel each other . The first is between Hamlet and Ophelia . Ophelia is told by her father to stop seeing Hamlet . However the two of them have several intimate moments in the play . Up until her death the audience has reason to believe that Hamlet and Ophelia will to be together . Gertrude and Claudio is the second of the love stories The second conflict centers around revenge . Hamlet 's sets out to avenge his father 's death , and in the process kills 7 other people - including his mother Gertrude . Laeretes seeks revenge against Hamlet 's for Polonius ' death and his sister suicide and in the process kills Hamlet as well as himself . Gertrude and Claudius seek revenge against Hamlet for revealing their murder of the King of Denmark and set in motion the series of events which eventually lead to their own deaths .
