The Concept

There has never been a time in history like today when a person 's private sphere teeters perilously over that of the public . In our technocratic and tangled world dominated by the encompassing power of the Internet , privacy can be set or unset at a click of a mouse . But even with these capabilities , there are still ways and methods for our online person to be invaded : guiltless account hacking , the intractable virus , shifty pop-ups , and the like . And so most

cry outrage and war against these intruders ! A demand for an interception of these plunderers of our identity abound ! But , there are still some that find excitement , and even danger , in this mingling of our private lives with the public world . Watching and being watched behind the veil of anonymity brings about a sense of adventure that disrupts the ins and outs of our mundane , routinary existence

This sense of voyeurism and exhibitionism , long a social taboo , has now become an almost intrinsic quality of today 's cyber society - a quality perhaps , that as a people we still vehemently deny . This art exhibit entitled The Public Private : Art and Images of Today 's Cyber Age focuses on the reluctant acceptance of today 's society of the changing virtues of our time .
