In a human context , a community can be defined as a group of people who live together in a given locality and shares common social cultural principles . As a group of people , the interest and well being of the community goes beyond the likes and dislikes of individual members of the community . Community crime prevention refers to any action , under taken by members of the society to reduce or eliminate any form of crime . It involves coming up and implementing strategies , policies and initiatives which will deter the members of the society from engaging into risk factors which can amount to crime as well as changing the communities perception towards crime

The social disorganization theory holds that lack of social behavioral regulation to feature in the communities existing standards is a major cause of societal crimes .
