Who is in control of our public education?
Who Controls Public Education The argument about who best controls the public education system is not black and white . The government has enforced rules such as the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB , which instructs each child must master a skill before moving on to the next grade , and is tested , using standardized tests , to ensure mastery of each skill . However , these tests are culturally biased , allowing many students to fail and not move on to the next grade . Furthermore , the No Child Left Behind Act has recently tied student performance to

schools
It is because of these stringent rules that the government should not be in charge of public education . Because the government is an entity not involved in the every day life of teaching children , the logical reasoning of government governing schools is illogical . Perhaps as suggested by an educator in California , Sandra Nichols , the best option for governing schools would be a uniform document outlining standards by the Federal Government followed by state oversight with the majority governance by educators . According to Nichols , the NCLB does little to encourage children to learn and in fact dissuades children from learning skills to get ahead . One solution would be to do a complete overhaul of the current public education system and eliminate NCLB . In California Ms . Nichols and her counterparts are working hard towards changing the system . Their beliefs are to get the government out of the schools beyond budgeting , and the ones who have a complete understand (educators ) back in to run the schools . Those who know how children learn , the standards of public education , and has inside knowledge ' of schools , logically would be the best people to govern the schools in for our children to move up in the national competition of education
