Running head : Computer security Student name Student number Course title Lecturer Date Computer security Computer security is the employment of safeguarding measure for information in the information systems against unauthorized access disclosure , use , modification disruption or destruction as well as vandalism of systems hosting the information while data integrity is retained (Callow , 2008 Computer security involves both logical and physical security . Logical security is protection that involves ensuring software and data free from bugs that would make them vulnerable and exposed to intruders These bugs

may be in form of buffer overflows , unconsidered inputs , and race conditions . This bug may expose the data and software to virus attacks as well so that data becomes subject to theft or corruption by hacker . There are ways of securing computers logically by applying firewalls to the computer systems , installing antivirus to the systems and proper use of cryptography for encryption (Stone Jose , 2007
Physical security refers to security of systems ' hardware . This is vandalism or theft of systems such as windows PC 's , servers and Macs To ensure physical security , some computer systems such as PC 's have cases that are lockable and have keys to open the cases therefore their motherboards and BIOS configurations cannot be tampered with . Location of the system could also have security levels that would include rooms locked and authorized persons accessing the rooms it would also include CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television cameras ) for surveillance purposes (Gritzalis , 2009 . There is also the hardware mechanism that would be used for...
