A language barrier creates communication break down that hinders police officers to gather evidences and provide protection . This barrier makes it harder for law enforcers to solve offenses and crimes in a certain locality . This is really a big problem that law enforcers are encountering as stated by one police officer Language discordance is our biggest challenge when serving the Hispanic community (Rahman Kashu , 2007 . Language barrier makes it very hard for police officers to get their work done and can even put their lives in great danger
According to the Department of Justice Office of the Community Oriented Policing Services ' At the core of community policing are partnership and problem solving , but those essential elements can be hindered if law enforcement is not able to communicate with the growing diverse population in this country (Rahman Kashu , 2007 . In to have a safer community , it is important that we recognize the need of improving the communication and interaction skills of our law enforcers . By developing the communication skills of law enforcers , police and community relations will also be strengthen . Trust will also increase and public safety problems will surely be addressed
