The twentieth century has become a critical period for women , who dwell in the United States . There were many things American females got - the right to vote , birth-control pills , the ability to work at the positions that had been earlier considered suitable only for man and many other things . The life of the female U .S population has changed dramatically in this period , women has become more competent , empowered , and strong they got the possibility to decide for themselves , and to do what they want to do

, instead of taking the position the society considers suitable for them

The 26th of August , 1920 became the decisive point in the women struggle for rights and opportunities in the USA , as on this day they got the right to take an active part in the political life of the country , to decide about its future . That day the American women got the right to vote . It was one of the first major steps to equaling the rights of the representatives of different genders , of changing social views on the position of the U .S women

After the 1920 's suffrage , there were many changes that made the lives of American women look like they do now . Females got social , political and cultural freedoms they had been previously denied because of their gender . The right for expressing sexuality , the right for sex was one of the major things that helped women to change their social status Previously sex has been the privilege of man , and women had to deal with the consequences . The first step conquer this persuasion was made in 1936 , when the federal law prohibiting the dissemination of contraceptive information through the mail was modified so that birth control information was no longer classified as obscene . In 1960 The Food and Drug Administration approved birth control pills , which gave women the right to enjoy sex without being afraid of the consequences it brought . This tendency was supported by the changes in the U .S law base which allowed unmarried people to use contraceptives , and gave every women the right for safe and legal abortion

Professional sphere has also suffered many reformations considering gender-related aspects of employment and work compensation . On June 10 1963 Congress passed the Equal Pay Act , making it illegal for employers to pay a woman less than what a man would receive for the same job . It created the backgrounds of financial independence for millions of women who got the opportunity to earn their living by themselves , without having to be dependent from their parents or husbands . Acceptance of the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act , and creation of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 1964 , which investigated the complaints concerning racial and gender work discrimination , strengthened the professional position of American women , and added to their ability to be financially and psychologically independent .
