Real rifles are used and at times participants have been harmed . Every city in Mexico has a Zucalo , which takes place in the city square . The celebration includes food , shows music performed by mariachi bands , dancing and the participation of the majority of citizens in blowing whistles and making noise with rattles and horns while shouts of ?Viva Mexico ! fill the air (Herz , Inside Mexico
