Christianity Religious Views Christianity has been around for two thousand years . It is a religion based on the belief of the Hebrews (or Jews ) in an all-powerful omnipotent God , who is the Creator of all things . The main difference is that Christians believe in Jesus Christ , who is God the Son and the Messiah , whereas the Jews do not

The Jews believe that they are God 's people , descended from Abraham , who they call is the Father of All Nations . Through Moses , they were freed from bondage

from Egyptians and had given them the Land Flowing with Milk and Honey , the land which is now called Israel . The people of Israel were oppressed and God had made a promise with them that He will send them his Messiah . The Jews were expecting three messiahs - a great prophet , a great prince and a great priest . Christians believe that these three messiahs were incorporated in Jesus Christ . Jesus Christ was the son of a carpenter , but according to Christians , descended from King David , giving Him royal blood and fulfilling the promise of the coming of a great prince . He preached to the people the good news about the coming of the Kingdom of God , fulfilling the promise of the coming of a great prophet . He taught ways and gave examples of living a righteous life , fulfilling the promise of the coming of a great priest

The first Christians were actually Jews who followed in the teachings of and believed in Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah . Like the Jews their belief in one , all-powerful and onmipotent God is based on the writings in the Old Testament , which includes stories of men 's interaction with God - from the creation of Adam and Eve to their banishment from the Garden of Eden from Abraham to his son Isaac and to Isaac 's sons until the journey into Egypt from Moses who led the people of Israel out of Egypt into their promised land , and who established their laws , to other great prophets like Joshua and Elijah who prophesied about the coming of the Messiah and from the kings like David and Solomon who has led the people of Israel , to the people of legend who contributed to their land in their times of oppression . For them , these people are real persons of history and their firm belief in God has already been proven by the account of these persons . No further proof is required to know that God really exist . If physical proof is what critics need , Christians , as well as other religions which believe in God , would only reply : You really don 't have to see air to know it 's there ' Indeed , like the air that surrounds us , one could feel the existence of God in their hearts
