br noticed is the fact that both have heavy use of personification to describe the subject matter . In the `Fog ' the author 's of the phenomenon seems to refer to the inanimate `fog ' as one would refer to a person , as in the lines , It sits looking / over harbor and city (3-4 here the fog is pictured as someone /something who can `sit and look ' as with one does with a tangible body and eyes , despite the fog being plasmatic or vapory . Dickinson on the other hand uses personification in her poem in the lines , A narrow Fellow in the Grass / Occasionally rides - / You may have met Him (1-3 ) referring to the snake as a `fellow ' and using the pronoun `him ' to refer to the creature . Another similarity in both of the poems is the quality of eeriness and fear of the unknown . In Sandburg 's poem , there is an allusion to the fear of death...
