Kanfer , Stefan "The doctor beloved by all : Theodor Seuss Geisel : 1904-1991 (obituary , Time , Oct 7 1991 Issue
My chosen author for the project is Theodor Seuss Geisel , a .k .a . Dr . Seuss .Name of Student : Title of Subject : Children 's Literature Name of Professor : Date : Children 's Literature Biography : Theodor Seuss Geisel was born in 1904 , in Springfield MA , stemming from an immigrant German family . He attended Dartmouth College , and contributed to the Dartmouth Jack-O-Lantern , eventually rising to the position of editor- in-chief . He then went on the Lincoln College , Oxford , to do a Ph .D . in literature , but only returned married and without a doctorate degree . On his return he began to contribute cartoons and funny pieces to top-flight magazines like Judge and Saturday Evening Post , and also worked in advertising . After Pearl Harbor Geisel was compelled towards further , more direct involvement . He began by drawing propaganda posters for the war , and then joined the Army in the Animation Department . He also scripted war documentaries , one of which won for him an Academy Award . A non-military animation work Gerald McBoing Boing (1950 ) fetched him another Academy Award . When released from the Army he settled in California and concentrated on composing books for children , of which he has already composed eight . The decade of the fifties turned out to be his most productive and creative period - his most memorable and popular books fall into this time frame , e .g . If I Ran the Zoo (1950 , Scrambled Eggs Super (1953 , On Beyond Zebra (1955 , If I Ran the Circus (1956 , How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1957...
