Change and Culture of an Organization

Today , the world is changing at a very fast pace and the only thing that is considered stable in this fast moving world is change itself

Everything is being affected by change and therefore , organizations are also a victim of this instability . No organization these days can hide in a corner and try to escape the repercussions of the global wide changes whether it is a local

organization or a global one . The change in today 's world is fuelled by globalization , which has taken over the world by storm and turned it into a global village

The globalization has been driven by many different things including the pressures to reduce cost , search for new and unsaturated markets , meet customer 's demands for quality and customization , world wide communication , e- commerce , better education , transfer of technology across different places , trading blocs like European Union , lowering of trade barriers , foreign competition and integration of cultures (Briscoe Schuler , 2004

Organizations must adapt to the changes in the environment or else they might be crushed by competitors or vanish by becoming obsolete . Through the process of organizational development , organizations must prepare for and manage change in to succeed

When an organization is affected by changes , it may itself decide to implement various changes in its strategy , processes and structures . But in to put the planned changes into action , there might be a necessity to bring about a change in the organization 's culture which might then act to foster the changes or else become a source of inertia

There are different kinds of cultures that may be prevalent in an organization including

Baseball team cultures : a culture where high risk decision making and fast feedback from the environment is required . Talent and innovation are held highly in this type of culture

Club culture : this culture is marked by loyalty , compatibility and commitment of the members . Employees tend to be generalists and seniority is the basis for rewards in this culture

Academy culture : this is a culture which is distinguished by the presence of young recruits for a long term career . Employees tend to be specialists . This culture works well for a stable environment
