The challenged faced by Muslim students when studying in foreign , non Muslim country is multifaceted and complex . This literature review will take into consideration various challenges faced by the Muslim students in a non-Muslim country . Novera (2004 ) provides a comprehensive insight into a variety of problems faced by Muslim students on campus . He takes into consideration some general dilemmas of academic nature that cause predicament for every international student as

well some particular socio-cultural problems faced only by Muslim students . Shafiqa Ahmadi (2003 ) takes into account the vital question of experiences of veiled Muslim women at the college premises in America through various thematic expressions in to explore the dilemmas faced by this group of Muslim students . Dagkas and Benn (2006 ) demonstrate another aspect of challenges faced by the Muslim students especially the female i .e . the denial of their religious needs and requirements while taking part in physical education activities . Sabra and Bruna 's (2007 ) also talk about some general problems of the Muslim students but their major concerns remain the inaccuracy and biasness against Islam and Muslim community in curriculum and text-books . It further researches the prejudiced and discriminatory behavior of teachers to Islam and Muslim students . All these studies has used the various research tools to locate the challenges faced by the Muslim students in the academic as well in the socio-cultural domain in a non-Muslim country

Literature review conducted by Novera (2004 ) clearly manifest that intercultural adjustments are a necessary pre-requisite for the student to adapt to the new environment . Failure in intercultural adjustment leads various psychological and physiological problems . Failure in intercultural adjustments arises from unfamiliarity with the host nation 's cultural traditions and social norms . But Novera (2006 ) here forgets to mention another significant root for this failure i .e . strict adherence to one 's own socio-religious customs and mode of life . This further results into affected academic performance (476 ) Intercultural competence i .e . the ability to demonstrate respect for , interest in and understanding of a range of attitudes , beliefs and traditions can lead to intercultural adjustment . It describes the ability to contribute to the cultural dialogue needed to develop mutually beneficial relationships

Novera 's (2006 ) study found that most Muslim Indonesian students face a variety of problem right from the start . Language is the foremost of the barriers for a smooth adjustment in the host country and for beneficial learning process (479 ) As their native system of instructions especially of languages is quite different from the host country , so new learning methodology in the host nation is incomprehensible for them Oral presentations or Academic speaking is the most neglected area in their native country , so they remain unable to become a good presenter while getting education in an English speaking country .
