The central character of Scott Fitzgerald 's novel , The Great Gatsby is Jay Gatsby , the mysterious multimillionaire in the story . Even though the story was told in the point of view of Nick Carraway , it was mostly about the complexities of Jay Gatsby 's life . At one point of the story Nick Carraway realized that the life he is pursuing might be the same that Jay Gatsby had . Jay Gatsby became rich , but with it came

The story is told in the point of view of the narrator , Nick Carraway He studied at Yale , joined the war , and returned home unsuccessful . He moved to New York from his Midwest home in search for a better life . He became a bond salesman in hope of becoming rich someday soon . Jay Gatsby came into the picture when he invited Nick to one of his lavish parties No one knows much about him , just the fact that he 's rich and very welcoming .
