Spinocerebellar Ataxia

My 20 year old neighbor , Daniel has been my good friend since the past twelve years . We have spent a lot of time together by playing in each other 's house or the park in our locality . He is the only child of his parents and was a healthy young man , full of vigor until his twentieth birthday . Just a couple of months after his birthday , he started experiencing difficulty in walking . This problem got aggravated and was accompanied by speech difficulties and abnormalities in eye movements

When he was

taken to the doctor , the doctor advised a complete clinical examination as he suspected that Daniel might be suffering from spinocerebellar ataxia . He was made to undergo various blood tests to rule out other diss that have similar symptoms . He was also made to undergo extensive neurological examination including the MRI scan of the brain that confirmed the doctor 's concerns . Since spinocerebellar ataxia is a genetically transmitted disease the doctor questioned Daniel and his parents about the history of this disease in their family . Daniel 's mother revealed that her father who had died before Daniel 's birth had suffered from spinocerebellar ataxia

The family was shattered after Daniel 's diagnosis because there is no cure of this disease that degenerates the patient 's condition slowly Also there is no treatment to slow the progression of this disease Daniel and his parents had to undergo a few sessions of psychological counseling in to come to terms...
