RESEARCH METHODOLOGY FOR CASE 4

The research methodology here would give an explanation to the method to be adopted in carrying out an effective research to case 4

RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS

Hypothesis is a conjectural statement used to show the relationship between two or more variables

The formulated hypothesis for this study is presented as thus

H0 : A single dose of t- cell booster is not a substitute for a powerful cocktail of multiple medications that aid in the raise of t- cell counts in AIDS patients

p H1 : a single dose of t-cell booster is a substitute for a powerful cocktail of multiple medications that aid in the raise of t- cell counts in AIDS patients

NOTE : `t- cell booster ' is just an improvised nomenclature used in place for the new drug

RESEARCH DESIGNS

The research design to be adopted in this case study would be the Experimental research design . Experimental research is a scientific investigation in which observations are made and data collected according to defined characteristics . It is a potent instrument for discovering the variables of interest (Bankole , 2003 : 18

Thus , the laboratory experiments will consists of two groups of subjects for the research Experimental group and the Control group

Under this arrangement , all the independent variables , which can excert influence or affect the dependent variable would be controlled . These variables are manipulated because they are not considered relevant to the study

In essence an experiment makes a change in variables which is normally referred to as the independent variables , then observe the effect of the change on another variable known as the dependent variables (Cohen and Manion , 1980

POPULATION OF THE STUDY

The population of the study would comprise of all those patients who are suffering from the Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS

SAMPLE SIZE AND SAMPLING TECHNIQUE

The sample size (or subjects ) for the research study would comprise of two groups experimental group and the control group

Each of the groups would consist of AIDS patients with different periods of which they have been suffering the AIDS ailment . Thus , the sample size would consists of 60 subjects , in the following categories

10 AIDS patients with full-blown case for a period of 3 months

10 AIDS patients with full-blown case for a period of 6 months

10AIDS patients with full-blown case for a period of 1 year

10 AIDS patients with a full-blown case for a period of 5 years

10 AIDS patients with a full-blown case for a period of 10 years

In the selection of subjects , the identified variants of HIV , which each patients is afflicted with , would be put into consideration when conducting the selection

Since the subjects are categorized into different groups , the quota sampling technique would best be used in the selection of the subjects for the research work

The quota sampling technique is a non- probability sampling technique where quota or strata is apportioned for the population to which the sample are to be drawn

The demand...
