The issue

The issue at hand is about a district sales manager , Kimberly Brouchous , who has to make tough decisions in her department as it pertains the field sales people . As a result of worsening financial conditions , each district has to cut its sales personnel expenses by a minimum of 10 percent a figure the manager has a problem in implementing within a notice of nine days

. There are other options on the list like firing to reduce the cost , but this is cut short by the fact that one of the employees was six months due to retire . Besides that , another employee wanted medical leave and amidst all this the manager is a bit confused

Significance of the problem

This problem shows that even if you are the leader of a tiny and perhaps a family owned business or a great company , dealing with employees is becoming more challenging during the worsening financial conditions . Nowadays it 's not uncommon for several businesses to compete for the services of skilled and talented individuals in the same manner as they would compete for a customer 's business . So the question of how a business can set itself apart from its competitors and attract high quality , key individuals and competitively retain them remains even when the economic crisis is bitting
