Paper Topic:

business ethics

.1 .4 .5 . Business ethics "Many organizations have established policies to remedy discrimination in hiring of women and minorities Discuss whether or not you feel that affirmative action programs reverse discrimination , and criteria of comparable worth are appropriate forms of remedy

The article written by Al Neuharth called Time to end , amend affirmative action ' found in the USA Today dated 11 /01 /00 speaks about the step that Florida took in order to join the states of California and Washington that already abolished affirmative action programs in the country . The article

proceeds by saying that Florida approved the One Florida ' plan that would rule out race and gender as important college /university admission factors in Florida . One should remember that the given plan was voted for and against predominantly by white males

We learn from the article that California and Washington abolished affirmative action in 1996 and 1998 correspondingly . It is expressed in the article that one believes that such anti-affirmative action plans were created as a reaction to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 . That given law was created to prohibit any type of discrimination based on the person 's color , race , religion , gender , age etc

The reason why one would oppose affirmative action in these states (and in many other 's too , is because affirmative action was oftentimes the cause of reverse-discrimination when the whites would be discriminated against and a position would be given to the minority just because she /he is a minority and not because of his /her personal abilities . The article notes that still despite some negatives caused by reversed discrimination , affirmative action is good and one should not abolish it . Still the article states that in order for the anti-affirmative action to stop one has to engage women and minority males who would only then outnumber white males , the ruling class in the USA
