br Black , Rights 2 INTRODUCTION- The American Blacks , though they arrived in the United States as slaves they had many sacrifices equal to the European pioneers , in molding this country as what it is now . And they could rightfully claim that they are part of its proud history The American Revolution was said to be a revolution of the citizens in another land ' This was the reason why it was short and not too bloody- and the reforms it produced were not too sweeping The Bill of Rights is the greatest legacy

of these American pioneers to the Democratic world BLACKS IN THE UNITED STATES
The first record of African slavery in Colonial America occurred in 1619 . The American colonies practiced strict the Closed type of slavery then as compared to the more lenient Open type , practiced in some European Countries . In the Blacks , Rights 3 Closed type , the slave was not considered as human being , but a private property of the owner-master He was not allowed to have a religion , can not contract marriage , and a slave for life . In the Open type , the slave was allowed to practice his religion , allowed to marry , and it was possible for him to gain freedom Church and government agencies monitor his welfare and rights . At the start , there no laws governing slavery then , but eventually the local courts declared slaves as properties of the master-owners
After the Revolution , Thomas Jefferson and many founding fathers realized that slavery was in conflict with what they stated in the Declaration of Independence . There were 16 presidents from the Declaration of Independence to the Proclamation of Emancipation . This problem was not the main cause of the Civil War at the start , but later in the war , it became the rallying point . The northern states were against slavery , and the southern states were pro-slavery . And even after the Civil War , the eradication of slavery was gradual . Freedom did not immediately give happiness and bliss to the ex-slaves . Most of them have no jobs and no lands to till . But gradually their lots improved thru the years
