A short critique : It appears the area dodged a bullet

The report by Associated Press presented the unexpected findings that deep sea corals may not have been extremely damaged from the BP Gulf Oil Spill . This paper is a short critique of Scientist Steve Ross 's findings and possible ecological and political implications

a ) Did the area dodge the bullet

Skolof (2010 ) explains that ecosystems are highly dynamic and capable of addressing

different disturbances affecting them . From this point of view , Steve Ross 's report that `it appears the area dodged the bullet is partly correct . Due to dynamics of the deep sea waters especially through movement and exchange of waters between deeper and surface layers , oil spilled from the British Petroleum leakage moved from underground to the surface of the sea . It is particularly important to note the lower density of crude petroleum that made it move from the lower levels with ease

From a closer point of view , ` . dodging a bullet ' as presented by Steve Ross appears to be only a face value report . To concur with Mitsch (2010 ) and King (2010 , ecosystems are very complex and impacts of a major disturbance cannot be effectively concluded until holistic implications are evaluated . Ross 's statement therefore fails to account for the following key effects . While the older and more visible larger organisms may have developed effective coping mechanisms , younger ones may have died...
