The study titled Effectiveness of Assistive Technologies for Low Vision Rehabilitation : A Systematic Review ' is a systematic review that studies the effectiveness of various assistive technologies in rehabilitating individuals with low vision . Such individuals were unable to get their vision corrected using standard measures such as eye lenses , contact lenses , drugs or surgery . They often require assistive devices to

enable normal functioning . Some of the assistive devices used by individuals with low vision include hand magnifiers , night vision devices , canes , filters , field enhancement devices , etc . Several databases such as CINAHL , EBM Reviews , Medline , Pubmed , EMBASE PsycheInfo , etc , were searched with search terms such as low vision visual impairment , assistive technologies , etc . The Limits of the search included articles published between 1980 to 2007 , English articles , Systematic reviews and meta-analysis , and individuals over 19 years of age . A 27-point checklist was utilized to assess each study and was scored based on the criteria . More than 108 articles were reviewed . It was found that non-electronic devices such as magnifiers were used for reading where low vision was required . Electronic magnifiers and cameras were utilized to produce high magnification . One study even demonstrated that individuals may use telescope for spotting Amongst the mobility-related devices that were used , long canes and night mobility devices seemed to be useful but their effectiveness remained unknown .
