p The history of art in India was heavily influenced by religious themes and symbols that controlled the region . Although themes and ideas from Hinduism can be seen in some the the ancient Indian art , it is usually only traces , especially in the early Gupta period between 320 and 550 AD . During this time Buddhism was a very prominent and powerful influence on art and culture . br and themes , the sculptures are directly influenced by Hindu art that is characterized by voluptuous and curved forms with elaborate detail and covered in jewelry . The later period that stretched from the late Dravidian beginning in 800 AD and the Medieval period lasted from 900 AD to 1500 AD , saw the same Buddhist influence , but with a new resurgence of Hindu religious themes . Throughout the centuries , Ancient Indian art can be linked with Hinduism , which gradually diminishes with the strong influence of Buddhism
The Gupta Period , which reigned from 320 to 550 CE , was know as the golden age of India where many classical artworks and sculptures were created . During this classical period , many styles of art would influence the later periods of Indian art and establish the themes that would be apparent throughout the early Indian history .
