Among the common artistic heritage of this civilization that is being studied by the modern society are the potteries of the Ancient Greek people namely their Black and Red Figured Vases
The recovered pottery of the ancient Greek civilization has greatly affected the views and perception of the modern society regarding the culture and social structure of the said society . Because of the extensive efforts and modern resources of the present civilization , many artistic artifact particularly ancient Greek potteries are recovered and restored to their prime form detailing much information about the society that made them . The black-figure pottery is mainly the technique or style of the ancient Greek wherein the decoration appears as a black image on a red background . This pottery form is established to be the first common style or somewhat primitive technique in the Greek society dating from the early 7th century . This technique in the Greek pottery employs the use of pale iron-rich clay which when fired and oxidize will turn to a vase of rich reddish-orange color . The design in each pottery is an overall black making the color contrast between the silhouettes and the background the primary characteristic and artistic factor in the technique . Later , this pottery style is superseded by a more sophisticated technique namely the red-figure pottery that allows more intricate and detailed image presentation . In the red-figure pottery style , the whole vessel is painted with black pigment except for the details of the image such as the line , volume and shading allowing these unpainted portions to maintain the reddish tone of the Athenian clay after the burning and oxidation...
