This article deals with the general question of how interpersonal relationships are affected by technology . It consists of an examination (based entirely on existing research ) of three specific areas of study The first of the specific areas that is addressed by the article Is the influence of technology on social life . The author observes that as technology increases , the ability to gain information from and about far-flung places increases

. At the same time , however , the effect of technology on interpersonal relationships and cohesion seems to be negative . The technology seems to engender a distancing in interpersonal relationships . Further , according to the author , the interpersonal distancing is encouraged and validated in the media .
