Most Asian societies are predominantly feminist and matriarchal . This means that the women , albeit not openly , hold distinct and powerful roles in society despite their often , unpalatable professions . Men were of course considered the authority in many of these societies . However as an expression of the power of women to make the men think that they have the upper hand , the women presented themselves as domestically efficient and obedient to

their men while actually secretly manipulating the lives of these men without their knowledge . This characteristic of the Asian society has long been portrayed in many pieces of art especially in literature . The feminine lines of calligraphy and the grace of Chinese paintings are often reflections of the influence of the female gender over Asian societies . The tale of Miss Ren ' is of no exception in the expression of this quality of Asian societies as it portrays women in a discreet , apparently , male-controlled role , but offers situations where the women are still able to get what they want despite the dominance of the males the same is true with another Chuanqui tale about Miss Li
