Themes of motherhood can be very powerful , and provide a pivotal driving force in the memoir The Glass Castle ' by Jeannette Walls the novel The Bluest Eye ' by Toni Morrison , and the book American Hunger : A Record of Childhood and Youth ' by Richard Wright . Motherhood in all is shown as a fragile and yet powerful thing , something that can be damaged by the actions of either party and yet something that can bring them both together
