The development of trade , city growth , increasing rate of urbanization and industrialization caused a bigger demand in service and infrastructure

The undeveloped system of communication was a problem for many countries of that time and the USA was not an exception . The development of sciences as chemistry and physics allowed producing electricity which wasn 't widely used at all . By the works of such scientists and inventors as Samuel Morse , Joseph Henry and others showed the practical use of electric current , which had been only the subject of scientific interest before

The invention of telegraph opened a new era in communication . In 1835 Morse , who was a professor at New York University , proved that signals could be transmitted by electric wire using pulses to deflect an electromagnet . He made a public demonstration of a new communication means in 1838 but it took him five years to turn this invention into practice

The government was interested in this project because it opened new and quick way for information exchange , but the first telegraph line between Washington and Baltimore was opened only in 1844 . The project 's cost was 30 ,000 . But the popularity and simplicity of telegraph system made a revolution in the world of communication and caused its quick spreading countrywide

Morse 's invention is a good example of how technical innovations , that had a direct reference to life and practical use , got widely accepted and turned into practice . The freedom of trading and economical relations that existed in the USA already in the nineteenth century made possible the realization of complex technical projects that seemed to be profitable for investors .
