It is almost a truism that ever since the human species lit the first fire , human activity driven air pollution gained prominence and its effects have ranged from insignificance to levels of grave concern . On an almost insignificant level , air pollution due to point source releases causes localized responses such like annoyance and physical injuries . Urban air pollution which is mainly attributable to increases in gas

and particle concentrations originating either from coal combustion or motor vehicle emissions have been incriminated in serious health effects . When air pollution is viewed from a regional scale , acid depositions and tropospheric ozone formations have raised concerns that these air transformations may necessitate the progression of catastrophic effects . Finally , on a global scale , green house gas emissions and stratospheric ozone depletion represent extensive planet scale assaults on the integrity of the atmospheric environment
