educational institutions in the United States to resort to video surveillance in to maintain campus security . This safety measure would supposedly prevent similar felonies from happening by constantly monitoring the activities of students and faculty inside the campus premises . Video surveillance could detect even the slightest indicator of trouble which , in turn , allows a school 's security personnel to immediately contact the police . Furthermore , students will be less likely to commit acts of delinquency or violence if they are aware that some type of monitor is recording their every move

But the usage of video surveillance in maintaining campus security is not without controversy . Apart from its costliness , it is likewise said to violate an individual 's right to privacy .
