Yucca Mountain
RESEARCH The Yucca Mountain Project INTRODUCTION The Yucca Mountain is a ridge line located in Nye County Nevada that is composed of volcanic material that has been ejected from an extinct caldera-forming super volcano . The U .S Department of Energy had considered the Yucca Mountain as a terminal storage facility for spent nuclear reactor and other radioactive waste . The Yucca Mountain Repository will include wastes that are by-product of electric power generation . Spent nuclear fuels were used by commercial nuclear power plants . High-level nuclear wastes , as by-products from the production

of fissile materials in defense facilities of the country will also be dumped in this area . ADDIN EN .CITE Yucca Mountainencyclopedic article2006november 32006wikipediahttp /en .wikipedia .org /wiki /Yucca_Mountainwikipediawikipedia .orgenglishoctober 2006 "Yucca Mountain
The establishment of nuclear facilities had been discussed and subjected to national discussions worldwide . The controversy at hand is health issues that will be raised once the Yucca Mountain Repository project is implemented . Nuclear wastes are serious and can cost thousands of lives to suffer as nuclear reactions and harmful effects will take effect once the site is implemented with the project
It is important for us to evaluate the efficacy of nuclear plant wastes in lessening the harmful effects and drawbacks of having the plant in a populous area . Many must be informed of what the project do and how the project can greatly affect lives of can people living in Nevada . The issue behind the establishment of the project is concerned for the U .S citizens as health is the primary concern within the establishment of nuclear wastes facilities . It is important to weigh all the implications and consequences of the establishment of this facility so that we can be made aware of its benefits or harm to us
PROBLEM
Nuclear waste management , with the proposal of the Yucca Mountain Repository project is debated at the national level for so many years already . In 1982 , the United States Congress established a national policy regarding the proper nuclear waste disposal . The federal law approved by the congress is entitled Nuclear waste Policy Act . The policy is an assessment of experts worldwide as to how different states should manage their nuclear wastes . This policy enabled the U .S Department of Energy responsible in recommending ample site for nuclear repositories . Based on a geologic repository study in 1957 done by the National Academe of Sciences in which the study recommended disposal of nuclear waste in rock deep underground as to save the environment and public welfare , the DOE chose the Yucca Mountain site as the best possible repository site . The Department of Energy began its study of the site in the year 1978 The study aims to determine the suitability of the site in nuclear wastes disposal measures . Spent nuclear fuels and high-level radioactive wastes are currently disposed at 126 sites around the...
