Satya is among the Yamas which rests its meaning on the concept of truth ' It has three characteristics , which are : a ) it is similar through time whether it is in the past , present , or future , b ) it articulates true knowledge , and c ) it is geared towards the common welfare of people (Mehta , 2006 . This particular Yama is chosen because of its distinct character and the important role that

it plays in an individual 's everyday life

It could be seen as a complicated yet simple concept that emphasizes that there is no religion nobler than truth and no sin worse than untruth (Mehta , 2006 ,

. 47 . It is the purpose of the particular Yama to encourage individuals to determine reality , create acceptance of such , attach belief to it , and incorporate it in everyday living with the reality kept in mind (Mehta , 2006 . It is , therefore , the responsibility of an individual to constantly seek for the reality in life and be able to abide by this without incorporating interpretation to what is already known to be true . It lessens the negative elements in the mind , body , and soul for it is a means of avoiding stressful situations

With this in mind , I ensure that the things I tell my friends and family are within the bounds of truthfulness . There is no point in making false claims or arguments just to cover a mistake or misdeed because it is the truth which would lead to what is intended to happen There is a reason as to why everything goes as they are and lies would only distort the things that are to come . In addition to this , I avoid committing lies for the sake of other people because oftentimes , it leads to undesirable situations . Before , I experienced telling a lie in to save another person in a particular situation and the events after that made me feel worse than what I would have felt if I told them the truth . Lastly , I learned to abide by truthfulness because it always frees me from the worry of getting caught with my lies . It somehow lets my mind and conscience rest and lets me concentrate on other things
