Structural . With Everet gone because of his inefficiency as a project manager , another leader will have to take his place and impose a different method of doing things within the project team
Psychosocial . The social interactions between the team members is affected , resulting to friction among them , as there was no firm hand to guide their relationships with one another under Everet 's guidance
Technical . The functions and responsibilities of a project manager are not carried out
Managerial . The department head and Everet is affected , as a result of the latter 's inability to move the project at a faster pace
Goals . The project team goals are not achieved , and the desirable pace at which they should have been achieved is not likewise met
Alternatives
Because leadership plays a vital part of success of any project which any business organization wishes to execute within their company (Bowring , 2000 , a change of project manager would be highly advantageous
The project team could be self-directed , meaning there would be no project team manager as everyone in the team will both act as manager and member
The project team could retain John Everet , but this time send both him and his project team to more intensive training on team retreats
Overhaul the project team and assign a new manager as well as new project team members
Recommendations
The fourth alternative could be the best solution for the XRS Laser Group , because the problem roots at the culture of the team which does not fit the culture of the company as a whole , which is basically the most active approach to the situation from among the four alternatives aforementioned
Since the alternative can be an emotionally trying process , the OD process should be facilitated by a professional specialist with years of experience , as is argued by Montana and Charnov (2000 . This should be done because if the business wishes to remain competitive , positive change must be continual
The organizational development intervention should involve changing the culture and communication pattern of the organizational unit , which means that training would be required for the new manager as well as for the new project team in for them to get acquainted with their functions and what are expected of them
