When this book was first sent to publishers , Brontl used a male pen name of Ellis Bell as the author , fearing that the novel would not be accepted as the writing of a female writer . The Novel expresses social matters such as gender and social class issues . She attributed feminine and masculine qualities without regards to gender . The view of women as beings whose only desires
