The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been long-drawn and there appears to be no effective solution found , yet , to this problem . Several attempts have been made to broker peace but all were unsuccessful

Basically , the dispute stemmed from territorial occupation . Back in 1897 a Zionist Congress convened in Basle , Switzerland whose aim was to find the Jews a permanent home in Palestine that was to be protected by law . Migration that came in droves soon comprised a third of the population of Palestine . This did not sit well with

Palestine and it soon caused agitation among the Arabs . Violent clashes became frequent The situation is important to the United States because it is in need of an ally , with the same line of thinking , in this part of the region . The ally is Israel , to whom the US seems partial to in the conflict . The oil-rich region is also the world 's largest source of energy . The US certainly has to protect its interests in the Middle East . Several attempts had been made to broker peace between Israel and Palestine Unfortunately had come up with acceptable solutions for a more lasting peace . Both were not fully ready to comply with their ends of the agreements . During the implementation phase of the Declaration of Principles of the 1993 Oslo Peace Talks , hostilities broke between the parties which derailed the peace process
