Rationale for using questionnaires

Different methods of data collection accrue with them different advantages . A reputable method of data collection is the use of questionnaire in research process . When compared to the use of face-to -face interviews , questionnaires are basically more cost effective . This can primarily be seen when studies involve large areas of concern and using large sizes of sample . Questionnaires are also easy in their analysis . They usually use various methods of data analysis with

which adequate results can be arrived at . The process of data tabulation and entry is persuasively easier . The growing concern in research has also led to many software packages for analysis of data collected by questionnaires (Rachael , 2001

The use of questionnaires brings greater familiarity to the respondent fraternity . Many scholars and non scholars have become aware of the rationale for use of questionnaires in the research process . As of necessity also , questionnaires are important sediments in reducing the levels and standards of biasness in data collection . They are easy to administer randomly across the population sample . Elsewhere , personal effects and opinions of the researcher may not create any nominal interference to their response . The respondent does not get any clue on the subject matter of the different questions and therefore the response reflects the reflections of the respondents without any external interference of the researcher (Rachael , 2001

Generally , their use creates less of intrusion in to the respondent 's life than face-to-face and telephone surveys . The time scope of responding to the questionnaire is decided by the respond and therefore are open to choosing the best time of making these responses . This will therefore limit the scope of interruption of the time schedules of the respondent (Rachael , 2001
