Writing to Apply

The Seattle Times editorial of January 12 2007 (cited below ) stands in criticism of Democrats and their failure to live up to the expectations of their voters when it comes to pressuring President Bush to change his stance on the war in Iraq . The author has used a clear point of view and a critical tone to facilitate his ultimate purpose : to get across a blatant message of condemnation towards both Democrats in power and towards the

President himself concerning the war . With these tools at his side , the author assumes that the point of view of the reader is in keeping with his own , and proceeds to suggest what more can be done to affect the kind of political changes he himself wants to see

By pointing out that the Democrats were voted into power so that they might specifically address the very controversial issue of the American invasion of Iraq , the author of this article is communicating with a clearly critical and frustrated tone of voice . Like many others , this person wants the Democrats to make good on the promises they made to oppose George Bush and protect American citizens as well as Iraqi citizens far overseas this has been very important in any Democratic campaign over the last few years and one expects that these people , once voted in , have been working hard to achieve peace and influence the President 's decision making process with regards to Iraq . The tone used in this piece of writing conveys the fact that the author is disd with what has actually taken place in government , and in doing so hopes that the readers will take on a similar viewpoint

This author is of the opinion that the war in Iraq has been carried out unjustly , and that the majority of Americans agree that this is so . With this assumption on his side , the point of view gains strength and he carries on to explain a further injustice within government that he believes the readers will not be particularly aware of . The editorial is all about purpose the author has used what he believes is common information and a common point of view (at least among his own readers ) to nurture a new idea within the readership . The author has witnessed what he perceives as an injustice in both the war in Iraq and in the mishandling of opposition seats by the Democrats , and he wants people to see the situation the same way he does . In doing so it is possible that people will in turn demand more from their elected representatives and force the Democratic side of government to take up a firm hand of action instead...
