Writing for Research
Discussion Question What are some of the typical errors that a researcher should look for when reviewing journals Researches published on scientific journals have undergone a review process in to determine if the research article had followed the established rules and standards of empirical inquiry , thus it is assumed that when a research is published , it has passed the scrutiny of experts in its fields . However , this is not always true to form reviewers do not always scrutinize research articles for the lack of time and effort . Moreover , some researches are

published in journals that only have very few reviewers (Martella , Nelson Marchand-Martella 1999 . Therefore , as consumers of research , we must still be alert to the possible errors that a research article may have
In reviewing journals , the first thing to inspect is how the research questions have been stated and whether it is supported by adequate literature . Sometimes , due to the limited word length , the background and literature review of the study is presented as one section , a well-written article must contain literature that supports the research questions whether it be theory or research based (Martella , Nelson Marchand-Martella , 1999 . The next part to inspect is the methods section of the study , the sampling methods , research design instruments , statistical analysis must be clearly identified , and that it should be the most appropriate for the design of the study . Moreover the research methods should coincide with the research questions , if the research intends to prove causality , then the statistical tools and the design of the research methods should also lead to establishing causality . How the data had been analyzed and the discussions presented by the author of the results of the study should also be inspected . The results should be accurately presented and the discussion should answer the research questions of the study , likewise it should also be interpreted in the light of previous researches and findings . The conclusion and recommendations section are usually filled with error especially when the researcher makes conclusions and recommendations that are beyond the scope of the study (Martella , Nelson Marchand-Martella , 1999
