Utilizing Scientific Research Paradigms

Scientific methods guide scientific research and experimentation to gain objective knowledge of things (Microsoft Encarta , 2006 . It is a way of obtaining information to achieve a given set of goals . There are three types on how research can be done , namely , quantitative qualitative and mixed . In the qualitative method , questions are best answered by descriptive observations to gain knowledge . It is a simple way of getting

information . However , when it comes to quantitative numbers begin to have prominence . This means that the questions are very precise and are measurable in numbers . In this method , statistical techniques are used to evaluate the data obtained . Conversely , the two research methods may be both used and this is called mixed paradigm What then is the most helpful of these three models

It would be better to prefer the mixed model where both the quantitative and qualitative methods are used . This can be a very powerful tool especially if the research study is very complex . This is also advantageous since data that can be collected from the two methods are different but are both crucial . Thus , to answer the goals of the research study , more detailed answers will be obtained . This type of research study is very appropriate for scientific research regarding trends and theories about nature . The qualitative method will provide for the of the natural phenomenon while the qualitative method will explain the causes of the explanation . Furthermore , it can be used to prove the quantitative data obtained and so , validate the information . Statistical data obtained will then be necessary to the study . Using statistics , the validity of the results of research are ensured . This is what is gained in quantitative research

Mixed scientific research works both ways for a research study . The quantitative and the qualitative data are both crucial if a complete and meaningful research should be conducted . Thus , mixed scientific research works best for most research studies
