PART 1 : FEEDBACK , REINFORCEMENT , AND INTRINSIC MOTIVATION
Athletes are usually known for being self-motivated . The
responsibilities of an athlete are obviously physically demanding . It
would take much courage and determination for one to actually find the
place in his or her heart to devote time and effort in this kind of
interest . This is the main reason why almost every athlete is within the
situation because of their own push on themselves to be a part of a
primary sports team . However , although the determination or the
self-push is present , it could be noted that individuals involved in
certain teams also need some motivational push just the same . Every now
and then the determination of the players usually goes from its peak
towards its downfall , whereas the athlete should be reminded of the
reason why they are a member of the team .
How then should motivation be implied within these situations ? It has
been noted through the observation made on the team members earlier that
the athletes naturally respond to positive reinforcement and punishment .
At first look , it could be observed that the said approaches of
motivation are contradictory to each other . However , no matter how
different they may seem , it could be observed through experiential
examples that applying them as an integrated approach to a certain team
may cause better results than using only one of them in the process .
In this regard , it is then highly important for one to understand what
is really meant by positive reinforcement and how it is particularly
different from the punishment approach . The positive approach of
motivating an individual actually spurs from the idea of learning from
one 's experience . Being motivated through learning has naturally been
noted by psychologists as one particular type of positive motivation .
Learning spurs up further individual improvement . When a person s bale
to learn something new from his job , he is further inspired to work
better to learn even more . This is the reason why many business
consultants advice that one key to employee-management relationship
success is the capability of the management to provide shifting
responsibilities to the employees whereas they are able to learn new
things every now and then and thus gain a certain level of
self-satisfaction . In this regard , there are four main ways by which
learning contributes to an employee 's working performance . The said ways
are s follows :
Learning as a way of human motivation
As earlier pointed out , learning is a tool which helps motivate a
person 's eagerness to continue performing well at his given tasks
especially when he is able to gain added knowledge or skill from what he
does . In other words , the tasks he performs are then used to become
links to his self improvement as an individual and as an employee as
well .
Learning as a way to reduce stress
When a person learns from his task , he is able to focus more on the
benefits that he is able to gain from performing well...
