Deductive reasoning tends to draw specific conclusions from general ideas . Its conclusion serves as a proof of similarities between specific types under general classes . It can be presented in the form of categorical syllogisms , wherein general premises are presented to prove specific conclusions , or by modus ponens , Modus Ponens , which uses affirmation of general facts to prove a specific conclusion .
