Looking at it in terms of the greater good , it seems that the idea to have a policy wherein the child /children from a home where there is abuse and violence will be removed and put in the care of the state serves a greater purpose , but it comes with a price . The benefits of less abusers in the future outweigh the probable broken families that may suffer in the present . The competing values here are that of the welfare of the child as a future contributing member of society and

that of the family . In a family where there is violence , should the state intervene ? Does the state have the right to separate the child from its parents ? What are the possible consequences that this may have on the family , the parents and the children

The Department of Job and Family Services refers to the Social Learning Theory as their basis for this policy . Research suggests that aggressive children have parents who use similar tactics when dealing with others that is why the state will intervene to help in the proper and healthy development of children , away from negative influence , their family , if need be . The policy provides that the child will be given back to the family when the offender achieves a status of offense free ' by undergoing treatment , counseling , therapy and life skills and parenting classes

However , wouldn 't there be trauma for the child when he is taken away from the family ? It might...
