Write a character analysis of Okonkwo as a tragic hero from the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

Ezinma 's masculine traits remind him of his longing for a masculine child , someone which Nwoye is not . When Ezinma is taken by the priestess Chielo , Okonkwo follows them in to ensure his daughter 's safety . Although he seems to take the priestess `abduction ' calmly , even asking Ekwefi why she is so worried about Ezinma , he pursues Chielo and Ezinma after a safe interval . It is clear that Okonkwo favors Ezinma , but being a woman Ezinma cannot have the birthright which a son could rightly have Okonknwo 's disdain for weakness forces

him to turn away from any form of femininity and in some way , from expressing his love for the people that has grown close to his heart

It is his `chi ' or his personal god which reminds him of the failure that threatens to destroy his dream of becoming a village elder , someone which his father failed to achieve . At the beginning of the story Unoka , Okonkwo 's father , consults the village priestess to inquire of his ill fortune . Chika , who is then the priestess of Agbala , tells him that his chi is bad and that unlike other man , he will be a disappointment . True to his words , Unoka dies in humiliation , buried outside the village for a sickness that dishonors the earth . The role of the priestess in Okonkwo 's tribe is crucial in determining their destinies . At the time Okonkwo is already an adult , Chika is a replaced by Chielo , an ordinary childless woman who shares shed with Ekwefi in the village market . Okonkwo , along with the other villagers , respect Chielo for she is an intercessor to the spirit world . When Chielo arrives at Okonkwo 's compound to pronounce a prophecy about Okonkwo 's household , Okonkwo refuses to interfere with her knowing that she is possessed...
