A Critic of Hans Keller 's ``Whose Authenticity ' [Insert author 's name] Hans Keller argues that the most basic error of any reflection towards the authenticity of any musical piece rests on the presumption that these musical pieces are more authentic than those who reflect upon them . On the other hand , if one is to talk about the musical genius of these pieces , the fundamental connection between the one who reflects and the musical piece goes the opposite way . That is , the musical piece is less authentic than the one who reflects . Yet at the heart of all these things one cannot easily dismiss the idea that `understanding ' is perhaps the key in unlocking the authenticity of any musical piece . Both the composer and the performer have contradictions in terms of what to expect with the musical piece , and from these contradictions , as Hans Keller argues , comes the defining moment of art . Hans Keller does a god job at expounding on the idea of musical authenticity , whether from the perspective of the composer , the performer , or of the audience whether in a live performance or not . The question of authenticity indeed goes beyond the mere expectations one can obtain during a live performance . Quite a number of things must be considered , and it is at such a crucial point Hans Keller sets the pace for the article . To a certain extent , however , one cannot easily slide away from the theories that surround the musical realm . Scholars of music may very well argue that music and all of its various and intricate components are not just simple elements combined into a single strand to form a musical piece or song . While many people may begin to think that the question of authenticity of musical pieces strongly rests on the composer and the performer , one should also begin to consider the role of the audience in defining what this authenticity really means . The question of authenticity with regard to the role of the audience revolves around the instance of how well the audience relates to or feels the musical piece . The feelings one can obtain from the musical piece may vary in many different forms and instances . For the most part , it is sufficient enough to assume that a good musical piece naturally evokes from the audience a certain sense or feeling that one may entirely or partially relate to something else such as a previous life experience perhaps . The sense of relation between the musical piece being presented to the audience and the feelings evoked from those who bear witness to the piece gives one a rough overview of the authenticity of songs , for one cannot easily fake emotions from those who hear an exemplary musical score conducted by an orchestra for instance . It should be noted that even the contemporaries of such a genius as Beethoven can be considered as an audience for his works . As Keller notes , the contemporaries of Beethoven seemed to have very minimal appreciation of what... |
