Night is Elie Wiesel 's magnum opus , a frank , terrible , and deeply moving account of his survival as a teenager in the Nazi death camps . Wiesel 's novel exposed the Holocaust in harsh , reminiscent , detail . Since Night 's central character is closely similar to its author , it may be considered more of a memoir than a novel . The book 's narrative style is light and disjointed with frequent changes in point of view . The book 's impact is due to its beautiful construction . Although its language is plain , but each sentence and episode

feels weighted and carefully chosen and differentiated . It is also very short and can be read in an hour . There is a feeling of cruel experience pitilessly distilled to its very core spirit . Night narrator is an orthodox Jewish teenager named Eliezer and it begins in 1941 in a Hasidic Community in the town of Sighet Transylvania . He is deeply devoted and is fascinated by his own culture and religion . He studies the Talmud and wishes to study Jewish cabbala Moshe the Beadle teaches the boy about Kabbalah and the mysteries of the Universe until the reality of World War II reaches them . When the fascists come to power in Romania and Jews are deported , Moshe is deported along with them . Some days later , he escapes and comes back to town and tells them that all the deported people were shot . That was only the beginning , the dusk of the coming night . Restrictions tightened for the next 18 month .No valuables were allowed to be kept by the Jews and they were not allowed to visit restaurants or synagogues and they must wear the Yellow Star all the time

According to s , the Jews were transferred to one of two ghettos .In May 1944 , the Ghettoes are closed and the residents deported by officers of the Nazi SS corp . All the people in the Ghettoes including the narrator 's the family is sent to Auschwitz- Birkenau . Here Eliezer and his father is separated from his mother and sister and he never sees them again . The metaphorical night only gets darker as Eliezer struggles to survive in the brutality and degradation of the camps

The rest of Night depicts Eliezer 's first , desperate attempts not to be separated from his father , or even to lose sight of him . It also depicts his sorrow and embarrassment at seeing his father 's deterioration into helplessness . Later their relationship alters and the young man becomes the older man 's comfort and support . Eliezer fears that his father 's existence might threaten his own survival and he feel ashamed of such thoughts , As Eliezer 's sense for physical survival becomes stronger , his attachment to other people decreases . Wiesel himself survived and emigrated to France
