Abstract

The holocaust was a systematic extermination of Jews in Europe during the Second World War by Nazi Germany . This paper discuses why the holocaust took place , the way it was carried out and whether the German people were aware of the atrocities being committed against Jews . The paper concludes that ordinary German citizens were to some extent aware of what was happening and failed to act and thus should take the blame

Introduction

History records that close to six million Jews were killed by the Nazi government of Germany between 1933 and 1945 , which were the holocaust years . The leading figure , a man whose infamy is known all over the world , Adolph Hitler , is considered the main planner and brains behind the worst genocide in recent history . More than six decades later questions abound about this event one such question is which people knew what was happening and who should bear the responsibility of these atrocities ? Surprisingly , some scholars and politicians claim the holocaust never happened
