The holocaust was a systematic extermination of Jews in Europe during the Second World War by Nazi Germany . This paper discuses why the holocaust took place , the way it was carried out and whether the German people were aware of the atrocities being committed against Jews . The paper concludes that ordinary German citizens were to some extent aware of what was happening and failed to act and thus should take the blame

The leading figure , a man whose infamy is known all over the world , Adolph Hitler , is considered the main planner and brains behind the worst genocide in recent history .
