The 1930 's saw the stage being set for the Second World War as events in the South Pacific and especially in Europe created a more volatile environment for many people . The first major invasion of this period was when Japan invaded Manchuria , capturing it from the Chinese , and later invading China itself . Yet , the real catalyst came in 1933 when Adolph Hitler and his Nazi Party came to power in Germany . He was a dictator that was bent on an empire that would be ruled exclusively by himself and by the end

of the decade Germany had invaded Poland and had their eyes on invading many other European countries , including Austria France , and England . At the same time , the leader of Italy , Benito Mussolini , had established a Fascist regime in Italy and was also bent on war in Europe for his own gain . In the end , there were three major threats to the free world , with a fourth coming in on the horizon Adolph Hitler and Nazism , Mussolini and Fascism , the desire for an expanding empire in Japan , and to a lesser extent , the rise of Communism in Russia . The first three would become extremely important to the ensuing World War II , while the fourth would become a major issue following the war

President Roosevelt 's initial reaction to the events happening in Europe was to start to move away from isolationism and towards helping the Allied nations fight against Germany 's attacks . He helped to arm Great Britain and the Allied troops , and to finance their war , even after the United States had to join the fight following the attack on Pearl Harbor . In terms of what Roosevelt could have done to stop the threat of impending war , there was not much else he could have done except for entering the war earlier and defeating Germany , Japan , and Italy much sooner , prohibiting them from defeating many other nations before the United States would get involved...
